Hollywood actors Matt Damon and Tom Holland were recently in India to promote their upcoming film, The Odyssey, and the country has seemingly left an impression on them.
Damon and Holland have recently talked about their love for Indian films, the contagious energy of Indian audiences, and why they would gladly sign a Bollywood project with the right story.
In an interview with India Today, Holland talked about potentially working in Indian cinema and noted that, if the right opportunity arose, he would be delighted to appear in a Bollywood movie.
Holland said, “If there was a way that I could deepen that relationship with you guys in a Bollywood movie or an Indian movie, I would jump at the opportunity.”
The actors then discussed how Indian movies are frequently viewed in the West. Bollywood is frequently seen through the prism of song, dance, and spectacle, and Damon thinks that’s exactly what makes it so unique. He believes that his co-star is the one who is prepared for the challenge.
Damon added, “We were just saying we wanted to do a Bollywood movie because Tom actually could do it because he’s a phenomenal dancer, and I would try to learn. I would do my best.”
The Oscar-winning actor continued by saying that the excitement that permeates Bollywood’s grandiose musical numbers is what captivates him. Additionally, he acknowledged that Bollywood continues to praise actors with the kind of all-around performance abilities that Hollywood does not.
“The older I get, the more I want joy in my work and in my life. So I would love to try that, especially if I had a co-star like him because he’s the only person I think could do what Fred Astaire did, right? There used to be a skill set that some of our great movie stars had that, because the nature of film has changed in Hollywood, is disappearing. So I would love to see him apply that skill set that he has,” Damon added.
Holland said that he had spent hours watching videos of Indian fans reacting to Marvel films online.
Holland noted, “I am so blessed to be a part of the MCU, and it’s so well received here. I have so much fun on YouTube watching you guys react to those big moments in the cinema. It feels more like a rock concert than it does going to the cinema.”
Matt Damon portrays Odysseus, whose long journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War reunites him with his wife Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway, and son Telemachus, portrayed by Tom Holland.
The ensemble cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, Travis Scott, Charlize Theron and Elliot Page. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on July 17.
