A24’s horror thriller Backrooms will arrive on premium video on demand on July 14, 2026 Both Apple TV and Prime Video now display the confirmed release date on their retail platforms. The film first launched in U.S. theaters on May 29, 2026
Initially, reports indicated a July 13 arrival on digital at 9:00 p.m. PDT. However, that timing effectively means the film becomes available on July 14 for viewers in most time zones. Meanwhile, A24 had originally been expected to release the film on VOD on July 7, but that date passed without a launch.
Kane Parsons directed the feature film, while Will Soodik wrote the screenplay. Additionally, the cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell. Atomic Monster, 21 Laps, and A24 produced the adaptation together.
The film follows a group of strangers who discover a strange doorway in a furniture showroom basement. Backrooms originated from Parsons’ viral YouTube short films, which he began creating at age 16. Subsequently, A24 announced the feature adaptation in February 2023, with Parsons attached to direct. Since then, the film has become one of 2026’s biggest horror hits at the box office. Parsons also confirmed in May 2026 that he was not finished with the franchise and that new projects were already in development. He also stated that his original web series would continue alongside any future films.
