Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception), Phoebe Dynevor (Remain, Thrash), Jacki Weaver (Bird Box), Jena Malone (Love Lies Bleeding, The Neon Demon), and Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) star in the film, which marks the directorial debut of Mark Heyman, screenwriter of Black Swan.
Famed director Darren Aronofsky produces through his label Protozoa Pictures.
The film tells of a couple (Gordon-Levitt and Dynevor) who head to a healing retreat meant to deliver a fresh start instead leads to terror.
Director Heyman said on the film: This movie
Director Heyman said on the film: “This movie is deeply personal and inspired by my family lore… Shooting it in New Mexico, where I grew up and where the real events took place, elevated every scene and made it all the more surreal. Add to that a cast firing on all cylinders, and you have a horror movie I’m immensely proud of and excited to unleash on audiences come the new year. What better way to ring in 2027 than with a freaky head trip?”
“Featuring incredible performances by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Phoebe Dynevor, Pendulum is an impressive, terrifying debut from acclaimed screenwriter Mark Heyman,” adds Vertical’s Peter Jarowey. “We are proud to be partnering with producers Darren, Jacob, and Dave, and are looking forward to ringing in 2027 by scaring the hell out of audiences.”
In Pendulum, married couple Patrick (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Abigail (Phoebe Dynevor) journey to a new-age retreat in New Mexico, drawn by the possibility of healing after a traumatic event. Patrick is willing to do anything to help his wife, but becomes distrustful of the retreat’s enigmatic leader (Jacki Weaver) even as Abigail falls under her spell.
As paranoia builds, the couple must determine if the group’s spiritual practices offer genuine healing – or mask a terrifying truth that threatens to consume them both.
Pendulum hits US cinemas on New Year’s Day.
