The first official trailer for a brand-new James Bond project has arrived.
A New James Bond Prequel Arrives in Audio Series Form
Released on October 29, Young Bond: SilverFin is an audio drama series from Big Finish Productions. Based on Charlie Higson’s 2005 novel of the same name—which was followed by multiple sequels from both Higson and author Steve Cole—it follows a teenage Bond at Eton.
“On his first day at his new school, James Bond is about to make his very first enemy, and is soon plunged into a deadly adventure that will take him from the playing fields of Eton to the murky waters of Loch Silverfin…,”the synopsis for the audio drama states, adding, “A monstrous secret lurks beneath its icy surface… a secret that threatens to plunge the world into a new era of warfare.”
British actor Isaac Rouse (The Crown Season 6) voices a teenage Bond, alongside Charlotte McBurney as Wilder Lawless. Both actors were announced earlier this year. Most recently, however, the wider cast—including Miriam Margolyes (Cleek MacSawney) and Charlie Higson as Bond’s mentor Michael Merriot—were confirmed. Watch the first trailer for the series below:
It’s hardly the most cinematic trailer—this is, after all, an audio series—but it’s still likely to keep some James Bondfans happy while they wait for the major casting announcement from Amazon MGM Studios about which actor will inherit the iconic role in its upcoming film reboot.
For now, Young Bond: SilverFin is the latest
For now, Young Bond: SilverFin is the latest entry in the wider 007 franchise, and in an exclusive interview with Radio Times, Isaac Rouse discusses his iteration of the young Bond.
“That is part of the unique joy of this story, that we get an opportunity to take Bond to a more vulnerable place where he is a boy,” he explains, adding, “And he’s not yet got the imperviousness, nor is the ever-calculating ruthless killer we are accustomed to. There’s still a boyish curiosity to him and a naivety.”
He continues: “There is still an edge to him. There is a real grit and an ability to punch up and to not take no for an answer. That’s in his soul, this unwillingness to yield. The greater character of him is formed as a result of the experiences he goes through between this story and Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale so it was a really interesting time. And what is particularly unique about this story, is that this is a Bond you can empathise with in a new way, because he’s vulnerable in ways he hasn’t been before.”
