Charlize Theron turned the New York City premiere of The Odyssey into a memorable family night by bringing along her two biggest supporters, daughters Jackson, 14, and August, 12.

The Oscar winner made a rare public appearance with her children on Tuesday evening as the trio attended the star-studded debut of Christopher Nolan‘s highly anticipated Greek epic.

While the event took place on a school night, it was clearly an exception for a milestone moment, giving fans a glimpse of Theron’s daughters as they joined their mom on one of Hollywood‘s biggest red carpets of the year.

The family embraced timeless fashion for the evening. August wore a stylish black dress paired with trendy Doc Martens and knee-high socks, creating an age-appropriate look with an edgy twist.

Jackson opted for an elegant off-the-shoulder black outfit finished with black wedge heels.

Theron stole the spotlight in a sophisticated white mini dress accented with oversized bow details. She completed the look with strappy heels, a gold choker necklace, and a bold red lip, adding classic Hollywood glamour to the premiere.

In 2019, Theron publicly shared that Jackson is transgender after her daughter told her at the age of three that she was not a boy.

The actress explained that her role as a parent is to love, protect, and support her daughters as they grow into the people they are meant to be. She has consistently emphasized that she wants both children to have the freedom to discover who they are without outside expectations.

In an April 2018 interview with ELLE, the actress shared that her upbringing in South Africa during the apartheid era left her “hyperaware of equality and human rights.”

“I want them to know who they are, and I want them to be so f—ing proud of who they are,” she said. “Building confidence for them right now is an oath I made to myself when I brought them home. They need to know where they come from and be proud of that.”

According to Theron, the pair can also be feisty. “When they fight, I actually got worried,” she told Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce in their podcast. “I was like, am I not doing the right thing? Like, they’re gonna kill each other because they’re both very, very strong. They’re not wallflowers, and they’re stubborn, and they’re just firecrackers.”

“When they love, they love very hard,” added the actress. “But when they fight, I’m like, oh my god. Like, am I gonna go to jail? They won’t stop.”

In 2019, Theron revealed her eldest child, Jackson, identifies as a girl. The star told The Daily Mail: “Yes, I thought she was a boy too. Until she looked at me when she was three years old and said: ‘I am not a boy!’”

She continued: “They were born who they are and exactly where in the world both of them get to find themselves as they grow up, and who they want to be, is not for me to decide.”
