We’ve been waiting. We’ve been asking, begging, and pleading for it. And now, it’s time: The Avengers: Doomsday trailer is imminent.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next larger-than-life ensemble film will reunite Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as they attempt to save the multiverse itself from new villain Doctor Doom, portrayed by franchise veteran Robert Downey Jr. Marvel Studios has done plenty of promoting the film ahead of its December release but they have held back that highly sought-after teaser trailer. That is, until now: As the studio has quietly confirmed when we can expect it – and it’s the arena many of us predicted all along.

Marvel Studios’ SDCC announcement confirms the Avengers: Doomsday trailer is coming

After months of speculation, rumors, and reports, Marvel Studios has officially confirmed the inevitable: The MCU is coming back to San Diego Comic-Con. The studio has announced that it will return to Hall H on Saturday, July 25, for a major MCU panel in the San Diego Convention Center’s Hall H. It will take place from 5:30 pm PT – 6:30 pm PT and is expected to feature some exciting updates and announcements from Marvel Studios’ upcoming slate of releases.

With the exception of Spider-Man: Brand New Day (which Marvel shares with Sony Pictures, who will do the marketing for that film), the only major release on the MCU calendar is, of course, Avengers: Doomsday. And, with reports that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will be joined by directors Joe and Anthony Russo, as well as stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, the first official teaser trailer for the movie is imminent.

For those of us who have been MCU fans for years, this won’t come as a surprise. For over a decade, Marvel Studios has used the grand stage of SDCC to launch marketing material for their upcoming releases. That often involves announcing new titles, bringing out the cast and crew of these projects and, of course, unveiling brand new footage / trailers from the upcoming titles. And, with that in mind, it makes perfect sense for the studio to continue that tradition this year with Avengers: Doomsday.

That being said, a large portion of Marvel fans were convinced that the studio would release the new footage earlier than that, and it all has to do with Marvel’s own behaviour regarding the film in recent months. See, they kicked off marketing for the December 18 release far earlier than they would with a typical movie, releasing four character-centric teaser trailers in the winter so that they could be attached to the theatrical release of Avatar: Fire and Ash. They have since heavily promoted the film at every major con or event that one of the creatives have appeared at, which even involved unveiling an exclusive teaser trailer to the audiences in attendance at CinemaCon back in April.

That was the moment that the fans went really feral for the Marvel trailer. As it was screened exclusively for audiences there, there was outcry that the studio opted against releasing it online. And given that footage breakdowns and descriptions very quickly leaked out, it’s safe to assume that this only increased anticipation and hype – which, yes, mission accomplished for the studio, but it caught fans off-guard as we all just assumed that after those first four trailers they would simply wait until SDCC to drop the main one.

After all, Marvel skipped every major event that would have served as justifiable marketing moments for Avengers: Doomsday. From skipping their veteran TV ad spot slot during the Super Bowl to not attaching the trailer to this summer’s The Mandalorian and Grogu, it was clear that Marvel’s focus was on pushing towards SDCC. Once the second half of the year began, marketing would kick into gear. And that’s what makes San Diego Comic-Con the perfect arena to launch that second phase of promotion.

Marvel skipped SDCC for the first time in years in 2025 so that they could maintain their focus on making Avengers: Doomsday the spectacle that fans are hoping that it will be. The film was in production all through the summer and, now, one year on, Feige, the Russo Brothers, and some of the stars of the film will undoubtedly be in attendance to show us a glimpse of what they have been working on.

The promotional push for Avengers: Doomsday has been quietly in effect for months now, with the CinemaCon trailer really launching that. With Marvel setting up a Doctor Doom-themed coffee shop at SXSW London andrecently unveiling that first look concept art of the film, the journey towards SDCC is on. Once the trailer makes its way online after that event, the second half of the year will be all about Avengers: Doomsday. And we can’t wait!

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 18, 2026.
