Crazy Taxi will get a live-action feature film adaptation. The comedy script will be who worked on the 2025 “Naked Gun” reboot. Neil H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara, who participated in the creation of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” film franchise, will serve as producers. The director and cast have not yet been announced
The creators intend to preserve the chaotic spirit of the original Crazy Taxi, where taxi drivers race through the streets and try to deliver passengers to their destination within the allotted time:
“The film is for anyone who spent hours racing around in a yellow taxi on Dreamcast, blasting music and smashing everything in their path.”
The film will be the first project under the new Netflix and SEGA agreement, which provides for work on several game adaptations from the company. The choice of Crazy Taxi as the pioneer, apparently, is not accidental: in 2027, Crazy Taxi: World Tour, the first full-fledged new installment in the series in 25 years, will be released.
It is likely that with the help of the adaptation, SEGA hopes to attract additional attention to the return of Crazy Taxi after such a long break. Whether the companies will synchronize the two releases is still unknown: the release date of the film on Netflix has not yet been announced.
