Selma Blair has been an open book when it comes to her health. The Legally Blonde actress and Dancing with the Stars alum revealed she’d been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 2018, and by 2021, she was in remission. But the journey hasn’t been easy.
Over the past few years, Selma has had a few health hiccups, including an outburst on a 2016 flight. She later described it as a “big mistake” and attributed her behavior to accidentally mixing medication with alcohol.
“I made a big mistake yesterday,” Selma said at the time. “After a lovely trip with my son and his dad, I mixed alcohol with medication. “That caused me to black out and led me to say and do things that I deeply regret.”
But fast-forward to 2026, Selma was unfortunately arrested following an alleged violent mid-flight incident. She was accused of hitting and biting flight attendants. A rep for the actress released a statement about the ordeal.
“Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct,” the rep told Variety in October 2026. “Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition.”

Selma Blair Was Diagnosed With Multiple Sclerosis
Selma opened up about her MS diagnosis in a lengthy Instagram post in October 2018.
“I have #multiplesclerosis . I am in an exacerbation,” she explained in her caption. “By the grace of the lord, and will power and the understanding producers at Netflix , I have a job. A wonderful job. I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps. But we are doing it . And I laugh and I don’t know exactly what I will do precisely but I will do my best.”

Selma contiuned, “I am in the thick of it but I hope to give some hope to others. And even to myself. You can’t get help unless you ask. It can be overwhelming in the beginning. You want to sleep. You always want to sleep. So I don’t have answers. You see, I want to sleep. But I am a forthcoming person and I want my life to be full somehow. I want to play with my son again. I want to walk down the street and ride my horse. I have MS and I am ok. But if you see me , dropping crap all over the street, feel free to help me pick it up. It takes a whole day for me alone. Thank you and may we all know good days amongst the challenges.”
In 2021, Selma confirmed she was in remission and said that no new lesions had formed.
What Is Multiple Sclerosis?
MS is a central nervous system disease and disrupts the flow of information between the brain and the rest of the body, according to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Does Selma Blair Have Other Health Issues?
Yes. Selma said in a November 2023 interview with “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker that she lives with a condition called dystonia.
“I have dystonia, also, that really doesn’t always flare up for entire conversations, but it’s almost like someone with a stutter, maybe, or a type of Tourette’s,” Selma explained.
