Netflix has released the official trailer and key art for The One About Matthew Perry, a new three-part documentary series about the life and legacy of Matthew Perry. All three episodes will premiere globally on October 27, 2026.
Directed by Emmy winner Mary Robertson, the documentary draws on interviews with Perry’s family, longtime friends and collaborators, alongside previously unreleased material from his family’s private archive.
The One About Matthew Perry Comes to Netflix on October 27
Each of the documentary’s three episodes runs approximately 50 minutes. The series looks beyond Perry’s public career to explore his personal life, his experiences with addiction and recovery, and the advocacy work that became an important part of his later years.
Among its most significant participants is Perry’s younger sister, Mia Perry Bowick, who speaks about her brother on camera for the first time. The documentary also includes previously unseen photos and videos from the Perry family archive.
Longtime friends Roger Castillo and David Pressman give their first on-camera accounts of their friendship with Perry, while several former girlfriends also participate. Castillo had known Perry for more than 40 years and drove him to his audition for Friends.
The series also goes back to that audition and the creation of Chandler Bing through firsthand accounts from former NBC Entertainment president Warren Littlefield and Friends Season 1 writer Jeff Strauss.
The Documentary Goes Beyond Friends
While Friends is naturally part of Perry’s story, The One About Matthew Perry also covers his work before and after the sitcom.
Participants discuss projects including Boys Will Be Boys, Fools Rush In, The Whole Nine Yards and The End of Longing. Among those interviewed are Kevin Pollak, who was Perry’s longtime friend and co-star, The Whole Nine Yards director Jonathan Lynn, and Fools Rush In producer Doug Draizin.
His experiences with addiction and recovery are another major part of the documentary. The series includes new firsthand accounts from people who knew Perry during different periods of that part of his life.
Tim Harrington, who met Perry at a recovery meeting in 2001 and later became his roommate, participates alongside West Huddleston, who worked with Perry on drug court advocacy. E. Martin Estrada, the former U.S. Attorney who led the prosecution in the criminal case connected to Perry’s death, is also among those interviewed.
Perry died on October 28, 2023. The documentary arrives on Netflix one day before the third anniversary of his death.
