I’m not sure there’s any filmmaker who’s work I look forward to more than Mike Flanagan. From The Haunting of Hill House to Midnight Mass to The Fall of the House of Usher, his work tends to me amongst my favorites. While Carrie wasn’t my favorite of his (check out my full review HERE), there’s no denying that he has a very distinct vision and no one is quite able to adapt King like him. So I was absolutely ecstatic to be able to pick his brain a bit and find out more about his version of Carrie directly from the man himself.
Mike gets into what quality Summer Howell had that made her the perfect Carrie and won her the role. We also discuss why there are so many Battlestar Galactica actors popping up in his work and how it was very last minute. We also get into the “no brainer” casting of Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White after her absolutely incredible turn as Bev Keane in Midnight Mass. This was one of my favorite chats recently, and you can check it all out in the embedded video above.
And don’t forgot to check out my interviews with Summer Howell & Samantha Sloyan and Matthew Lillard and Amber Midthunder HERE as well as Arthur Conti and Joel Oulette HERE.
Misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Summer H. Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.
All 8 Episodes of Carrie are now streaming on Prime Video.
