Deen Castronov was rushed to the hospital after suffering a “medical emergency” during Journey‘s recent show.
On Thursday night (October 8), the rock band was performing at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and just two songs into the concert, the 62-year-old drummer was helped off stage.
After the incident, keyboardist/guitarist Jonathan Cain addressed what was going on.
We’re going to see what happens as this progresses,” Jonathan, 76, said, per Tulsa World. “It’s an unfortunate situation. We’re very sorry. We’re hoping it’s only a delay, but please — I’m sorry. Don’t worry. Have your prayers ready. Have your prayers ready for Deen Castronovo, everybody. Thank you.”
Shortly thereafter, guitarist Neal Schon came out
Shortly thereafter, guitarist Neal Schon came out with an update on Deen, revealing the drummer had been taken to the hospital.
“He’s heading to the hospital. We’re going to continue the concert, and Deen’s tech, his drum tech, is going to sit in with us tonight,” Neal, 72, explained in a video shared by The Hair Metal Guru. “Please give a big hand for (longtime Journey drum tech) Steve Toomey. We’ll be back in about 15 minutes. We love you all; we’re really sorry about the inconvenience.”
When the show restarted, singer Arnel Pineda offered a little insight into what happened with Deen.
We ask for your prayers for our brother
“We ask for your prayers for our brother Deen Castronovo,” Arnel, 59, said. “He’s gonna be fine. Too much Gatorade.”
Later in the show, Neal shared, “This concert’s for Deen tonight. I’d love you all to pray for him. Everybody’s been going through a lot. I think he’s going to be fine.”
As of right now, no other details about Deen‘s condition have been released.
Journey is scheduled to perform it’s next show on Saturday, October 10 at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. No word yet if Deen will be back on stage with his band mates.
We wish Deen Castronovo a speedy recovery!
