Everyone knows full well that a full moon is necessary for a person to turn into a werewolf. However, few people realize that an identical pattern applies to the advertising campaign for Robert Eggers’ new film, *Werwulf*. The project’s debut trailer went live on June 29. A new poster was unveiled on August 29. The first merchandise went on sale on August 28. And yesterday, September 26, another trailer was released. What do all these dates have in common? Full moons, of course.
This latest trailer for “Werwulf” offers a much better understanding of the film’s actual plot. Of course, we already knew that the main character (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) turns into a ferocious werewolf and wreaks absolute havoc.
But now we’re introduced to his likely wife (played by Lily-Rose Depp), a knight who seeks to rid the world of wolves (Willem Dafoe), and a host of other strange and terrifying characters. Be sure to check it out for yourself.
This is exactly what you were hoping for,
So this is exactly what you were hoping for, isn’t it? An ultra-realistic historical take on the classic werewolf story, where terrifying events unfold on screen every second. In short, this is a full-fledged film by Robert Eggers.
However, we also see a family storyline and society’s outright hatred of wolves in general. And that chilling final line from the trailer makes it clear: no matter how Taylor-Johnson’s character becomes a werewolf, he does so to save his own soul. We can’t wait to see not just some wild werewolf scenes, but exactly where Eggers will take the audience. Will we sympathize with this character? Will we feel revulsion toward him? Or perhaps both? We’ll see.
The premiere of “Werwulf” is set for December 25, and until then, full moons are expected on October 26, November 24, and December 23. Mark these dates on your calendars, Egger’s fans. We clearly have a lot of exciting things ahead of us.
