The 45-year-old actress – who is the daughter of acclaimed director Ron Howard – thinks movie studios should show more faith in female filmmakers.
Bryce – who studied acting at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts – told Variety: “It’s really difficult to get paid to do the thing that you want to do in this business. And the amount of time between jobs is so significant that, unless you come from privilege or you have another job that somehow allows you to be flexible, you’re not getting a shot. You’re not even getting a chance, and that has to change.”
Bryce acknowledges that she could do even more to support aspiring female filmmakers.
The actress said: “There are so many brilliant artists and so little support, and it is incumbent upon people like me to make that a reality. And I constantly fall short. And I will not quit.”
Meanwhile, Bryce previously revealed that she “wasn’t allowed” to act during her childhood.
The movie star explained that her parents barred her from becoming a “child actor”.

“My parents were very firm on that boundary, that they were not going to support anyone who wanted to be a child actor.”
She shared: “I started working as a waitress on the weekends at a deli, and it was fantastic. Because I was 14, I needed to get a waiver from my parents to be on a payroll, and honestly, I was like, ‘This is great.'”
Bryce worked in various roles before she ultimately moved into the movie industry.
And on reflection, Bryce appreciates that her parents gave her such a well-rounded experience.
She said: “I’m really glad that they did that because when I did start acting, it took a while to make a living. To be able to be like, ‘Oh, okay. I can actually support myself with this.'”
