Next year, Michael B. Jordan is swaggering out of the shadows to bring one of cinema’s most charismatic thieves back to the silver screen for The Thomas Crown Affair. With Jordan wearing multiple hats as the project’s director, star, and producer, the hype for this reimagining of Norman Jewison’s 1968 classic caper is steadily rising through the roof. Bringing even more excitement and information to this upcoming release is a posting from the MPA, which says Jordan’s The Thomas Crown Affair is rated PG-13 for violence/action, some sexuality, nudity, strong language, and smoking.
From R-Rated Romance to PG-13 High Stakes
Jordan will lead the film with a cast that also includes Kenneth Branagh, Adria Arjona, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, and Pilou Asbæk. He directs from a script by Drew Pearce and Jason Hall. The story is by Alan R. Trustman and Drew Pearce, and the screenplay is by Alan R. Trustman. Jordan also produces the movie with Elizabeth Raposo, Marc Toberoff, Patrick McCormick, and Charles Roven. Meanwhile, executive producers include Jason Hall and Alan R. Trustman.
“Academy Award winner Michael B. Jordan directs, produces, and stars in a visually breathtaking, sensual, and unexpectedly moving heist thriller, where the most dangerous man in the room is the one nobody’s watching.”
Sleek Suits, High Art, and Lower Heat: What to Expect
Back when Jordan had found out he was nominated for an Academy Award for Sinners, he was just about to head into editing for The Thomas Crown Affair. He said, “So I’m going to be celebrating in a dark room, cutting together a movie for 2027. That’s a baby of mine that I’ve been wanting to make for a really long time, so I’m excited about it. I think it’s not going to be what exactly people are expecting as well. When you’re re-imagining something, it’s not a remake. It’s not a reboot. It’s a re-imagination, and I’m really excited about it because I really care about this movie and its title.”
Jordan also previously explained what the previous incarnations meant to him when he said, “I loved the 1999 version as a kid — Pierce Brosnan, the slickness, the art. I didn’t grow up going to museums, so that film showed me a different side of New York. My mom’s an artist — so I was raised around paints and leather dyeing. It shaped my taste more than I realized. Later, I saw the 1968 Steve McQueen version — the split screens, the style. After Creed, MGM asked what I wanted to do next. I said, ‘Thomas Crown Affair. I need that.’”
Are you at all surprised by the MPA’s rating for The Thomas Crown Affair? PG-13 strikes me as the sweet spot for a film like this. The rating gives Jordan enough leash to let loose while ensuring the film doesn’t venture too far into darkness. My wife nearly rocketed out of her seat when we saw the Thomas Crownteaser trailer in theaters a few weeks ago, so I’ll definitely be seeing this one in theaters the weekend of its March 15, 2027, release.
