The service is scheduled to launch next month across 10 international markets, offering ad-supported viewing, transactional rentals and an ad-free subscription option.
The JustWatch Group is expanding beyond streaming discovery with JustWatch TV, a service that will allow users to watch films and TV shows directly within the JustWatch website and apps.
JustWatch TV will launch in the United States and Canada, the UK and Ireland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Australia and New Zealand. The announcement was made at TIFF: The Market, the content marketplace at the Toronto International Film Festival.
JustWatch TV adds streaming directly to its platform
Content partners for the launch include Paramount, New Regency, Fremantle, Bleecker Street and Vortex Media, with additional partners expected to be announced.
The launch represents an expansion for JustWatch, which has spent more than a decade helping users discover content across more than 1,500 streaming services. The company says its service reaches more than 50 million monthly users and that viewing demand and consumer data will inform the catalogue available through JustWatch TV.
David Croyé, Founder and CEO, JustWatch Group: “Every day, millions of people come to JustWatch searching for simpler ways to watch and discover hundreds of thousands of movies and TV shows. For over a decade, our mission has been to connect fans with their favorite films and shows, particularly the hard-to-find and previously unavailable titles. With the launch of JustWatch TV, we aim to make content discovery, access and engagement even easier.”
JustWatch TV launches across 10 international markets
JustWatch TV will combine direct viewing on the platform with links to content available through users’ preferred streaming services. The company says the model is intended to help audiences discover films and TV shows while maintaining connections with other streaming platforms.
Quentin Carbonell, SVP of Global Content Acquisitions and Strategy at JustWatch: “JustWatch TV is designed to meet that demand head-on, offering a straightforward solution at a time of fragmentation. We are curating film and TV hits and hard-to-find gems that you can watch for free or rent on JustWatch, or easily rediscover them on your favorite services. This way, JustWatch TV aims to support the whole industry, from filmmakers to distributors to streaming platforms across the world.”
Paramount and Fremantle among launch content partners
JustWatch TV will be integrated into the existing JustWatch apps and website, allowing users to move from browsing to watching without switching platforms or creating separate accounts.
The service will be available to existing JustWatch users in the launch markets from next month.
