Practical Magic 2 has broken Spider-Man’s six-week grip on the domestic box office.
The long-awaited Warner Bros. sequel starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman opened in first place with an estimated $30 million from 4,146 theaters, finally knocking Spider-Man: Brand New Day from the top spot.
Spider-Man didn’t fall far. Tom Holland’s blockbuster added another $8.4 million in second place, while Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey continued its remarkable theatrical run with $7.4 million.
Newcomer Runner, starring Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson, opened in fourth place with $6.68 million, while Coyote vs. Acme rounded out the Top 5 with another $6.24 million.
1. Practical Magic 2 — $30 Million
Twenty-eight years after audiences first met the Owens sisters, Sally and Gillian have returned to the top of the box office.
Practical Magic 2 debuted with an estimated $30 million from 4,146 theaters, giving the Warner Bros. sequel a $7,236 per-theater average and an immediate first-place finish.
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return as Sally and Gillian Owens, joined by Joey King, Maisie Williams, Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña, Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing. Susanne Bier directs the sequel.
The opening also ends the extraordinary six-week No. 1 run of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
In our Practical Magic 2 review, we found plenty to enjoy in Bullock and Kidman’s enduring chemistry, even if the overlong sequel never completely recreates the peculiar magic of the 1998 original.
2. Spider-Man: Brand New Day — $8.4 Million
Peter Parker has finally surrendered the box-office crown.
After spending six consecutive weekends at No. 1, Spider-Man: Brand New Day slipped to second place with another $8.4 million from 3,303 theaters, a 54% decline from last weekend.
The bigger number remains extraordinary: $935.17 million domestically.
Tom Holland’s fourth solo Spider-Man movie has turned into one of the biggest theatrical events in history, and seven weekends into its run, audiences are still showing up.

3. The Odyssey — $7.4 Million
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey continues to sail.
The epic added another $7.4 million from 1,983 theaters, declining 43% from last weekend and bringing its domestic total to approximately $600.5 million.
That is remarkable staying power for a film that has now spent nearly two months in theaters.
Matt Damon leads the enormous ensemble as Odysseus, with Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron among the supporting cast.
Our The Odyssey review called Nolan’s adaptation a breathtaking epic for the ages and one of the filmmaker’s finest achievements.
4. Runner — $6.68 Million
Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson raced into fourth place with Runner, which opened to approximately $6.68 million from 2,568 theaters.
Directed by Scott Waugh, the action thriller stars Ritchson as former soldier Hank Malone, who becomes the target of a ruthless cartel while attempting to complete a critical medical delivery. Wilson co-stars as Ben Bishop, with Rodrigo Santoro, Leila George, Peta Sergeant and Kate Box also appearing.
The $2,601 per-theater average gives the Angel Studios release a modest start, but its performance over the next few weekends will show whether Ritchson’s television popularity and the movie’s action-driven premise can generate word of mouth.
5. Coyote vs. Acme — $6.24 Million
Wile E. Coyote still refuses to disappear.
Coyote vs. Acme collected another $6.24 million from 3,355 theaters, bringing its domestic total to approximately $47.76 million.
The live-action/animated comedy has now spent several weeks doing something that once seemed impossible: earning actual box-office revenue after Warner Bros. originally planned to shelve the completed movie.
Will Forte, John Cena and Lana Condor lead the human cast, with Dave Green directing.
