Paramount’s new G.I. Joe movie officially arrives in theaters on October 20, 2028.
Bradley Cooper stars as Duke, with Danny McBride directing from a script he wrote with his Righteous Gemstones collaborators Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri. The movie marks McBride’s feature directorial debut.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, and Zev Foreman produce for Hasbro Entertainment.
The date also gives the Joes a mid-October weekend with no direct competition on the calendar so far.
Duke And The Joes Head To Cobra’s Town
Paramount is keeping the plot under wraps, but McBride has already said plenty about what he is making.
The director told Josh Horowitz the movie follows Duke and a squad of Joes in Springfield, the normal-looking small town secretly run by Cobra in Larry Hama’s comics.
McBride also made clear it is not a comedy. He called it suspense and action, and a full reimagining of the franchise, which is also why the Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie is dead.
McBride originally pitched Paramount a movie about the Dreadnoks, Cobra’s biker mercenaries, but the studio wanted him to relaunch G.I. Joe itself first.
It’s the fourth live-action G.I. Joe movie, following The Rise of Cobra in 2009, Retaliation in 2013, and Snake Eyes in 2021, and it’s a fresh start not connected to any of them. Production is reportedly being eyed for 2027.
Chris Pratt And Walton Goggins Are The Names To Watch
Friday’s date lands on a project insiders have been right about all year.
Back on July 15, scooper Daniel Richtman told his Patreon members that McBride would direct and that Cooper, Chris Pratt, and Walton Goggins were eyed for the main roles.
McBride’s hiring went official that same day, and Cooper suited up as Duke on October 1, making Richtman two-for-two on the movie.
That leaves Pratt and Goggins as the names to watch, with plenty of time to fill out the team before cameras roll.
CBN’s own 1980s animated series, with two movies in development. McBride’s Dreadnoks film is waiting on this one, and the relaunch now has its date
