Whoopi Goldberg‘s clash with President Donald Trump continues. In a recent episode of The View, Goldberg said Trump envies Barack Obama and will never win the status he seems to crave, after Trump labeled his predecessor a “lousy president.”
Goldberg told viewers that the presidency demands a thick skin and a willingness to listen. She said Trump doesn’t pick apart an insult; he just reacts to it. Then she turned to the midterm elections, saying voters care little about Cheesecake Factory banter. Joy Behar suggested Trump feels jealous of Obama. Goldberg answered, “He’ll never be a brother, and he wants to be a brother, and he can’t.”
The spat began when Obama mocked Trump’s gold-heavy White House renovations, joking that the building looked “like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory.” Trump fired back at a rally.
He argued the White House symbolizes America
He argued the White House symbolizes America and needs proper upkeep, from fresh paint to secure plaster and window ornaments. Trump also took aim at Obama’s eye for detail. “He doesn’t see dirt, he doesn’t see filth, he doesn’t see broken ornaments on a building,” he said. The president then declared that the Cheesecake Factory comparison showed Obama was “a lousy president.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin said the controversy turned into a culture war online, with many conservatives rushing to defend the chain. She pointed out that the joke’s real target was Saddam Hussein, a dictator, and wondered why people felt more upset for a restaurant.
Furthermore, Sara Haines said few Americans care what the White House looks like. She called the gold décor offensive at a time when people go hungry, and she noted that voters never approved the remodel.
Sunny Hostin went further. She argued that Trump has fixated on Obama for years and that his “dirt” and “filth” remarks carried racial undertones. In her view, calling Black people “dirty” or “unclean” is a “well-documented racial trope,” and she described the comment as “a dog whistle” aimed at Trump’s base.
Donald Trump or his administration haven’t yet commented on this.
