In a landmark first for the Danish toy giant, the first-ever live-action/CGI hybrid LEGO film, LEGO® Friends: Heartlake the Musical, is heading to Netflix alongside its YouTube premiere on October 16, 2026.

Blending song-and-dance numbers, physical sets, and cutting-edge virtual production, the musical special marks an ambitious new direction for the long-running LEGO Friends franchise. Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming release.

What is LEGO Friends: Heartlake the Musical about?

The musical special follows a creative young girl named Daisy who constructs a world out of LEGO bricks. After stumbling across a mysterious key, she is magically whisked away into the bustling, colorful universe of Heartlake City.

While searching for a path back home, Daisy crosses paths with the franchise’s beloved core characters. However, her journey takes a detour when she learns that a local landmark is under threat: she must team up with her new friends on a high-stakes, song-filled mission to save a legendary treehouse.

    The official Netflix logline reads:

A young girl builds a world out of Lego bricks and suddenly finds herself in Heartlake City, where adventure and friendship await!

A High-Tech Production Driven by Musical Royalty

The project first came to light when the LEGO Group announced that legendary director and choreographer Kenny Ortega (High School Musical, Descendants, Hocus Pocus) boarded the production as executive producer.

As detailed on the LEGO Group’s Official Newsroom, Ortega teamed up with frequent creative collaborator Paul Becker (Julie and the Phantoms, The Kissing Booth), who directs and handles the choreography.

Filmed at stages in London, the visual look of the film was crafted alongside virtual production outfit Final Pixel. Rather than standard green screens or pure CGI animation, the film combines real human actors, oversized physical LEGO props, and real-time Unreal Engine environments projected onto state-of-the-art LED volumes—creating a tangible, hybrid live-action experience never seen before in the LEGO entertainment catalogue.

Speaking about the venture during production, Ortega noted:

We are a LEGO-loving household, and receiving this invitation from the LEGO Group to join them in their first live-action musical is an absolute honor. Also being able to produce alongside the wonderful team at FINAL PIXEL, leaders in virtual production, has me overjoyed.”.

    Who is in the cast?

The special features an ensemble of young British talent and musical theater performers:

    • Jada Langley as Daisy
    • Gino Ochello
    • Hannah Gracie
    • Angelina Li
    • Gracie McGonigal
    • Meesha Garbett (Matilda the Musical)
    • Danita Walcott Nicholls
    • Darcy Jacobs
    • Hamish Skeoch
    • Kevin N. Golding

When will LEGO Friends: Heartlake the Musical release on Netflix?

LEGO Friends: Heartlake the Musical arrives globally on Netflix on Friday, October 16, 2026. It premieres day and date with its YouTube premiere.

What Other LEGO Titles Are Streaming on Netflix Right Now?

Just last month, the Straw Hat Pirates received the official brick-building treatment in this high-profile crossover special. Reimagining Eiichiro Oda’s sprawling world through playful LEGO animation, the project sees the live-action cast return to lend their voices as Usopp regales crewmate Tony Tony Chopper with exaggerated tall tales across the East Blue.

Beyond the Grand Line, Netflix maintains a deep library of LEGO content spanning several key franchises. The streamer remains the primary home for the enduring Ninjago universe—including legacy powerhouse LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, the mainline LEGO Ninjago series, and its latest sequel entry LEGO Ninjago Dragons Rising. Fantasy fans can also delve into the imaginative world of LEGO DREAMZzz, magical lore in LEGO Elves: Secrets of Elvendale, or the island action of LEGO Bionicle: The Journey to One. For younger builders and city dwellers, there is plenty of slapstick urban rescue in LEGO City and LEGO: City Adventures, alongside the existing Heartlake City catalogue—including LEGO Friends: Girls on a Mission, the Holiday Special, and the rebooted LEGO Friends The Next Chapter and New Beginnings specials to catch up on before the musical arrives.

Will you or your family be tuning into LEGO Friends: Heartlake the Musical when it drops on Netflix this October? Let us know in the comments below!
