YouTube TV has added Discovery+ to its lineup as a paid add-on, giving subscribers a new way to watch Warner Bros. Discovery unscripted library without leaving the live-TV service. The option is available now to members on the main YouTube TV plan and on the company’s newer genre packages, and it bills alongside the base subscription rather than as a separate account.
For the launch, YouTube TV is offering only one discovery+ tier, priced at $11.99 a month. That single plan is the only version sold through the service at present. It unlocks the Discovery+ catalog of lifestyle, reality, home, food, true-crime, nature, and adventure programming drawn from networks that include Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery, OWN, Travel Channel, and Science Channel. Subscribers can browse full seasons and library episodes of long-running series such as 90 Day Fiancé, House Hunters, Gold Rush, Chopped, Fixer Upper, Deadliest Catch, Naked and Afraid, and Property Brothers, along with Discovery+ original series and specials that do not air on the linear channels already carried in the YouTube TV base package. You will also find two live feeds from NASA included in the add-on.
The add-on is meant to fill a gap that live linear carriage does not cover on its own. YouTube TV already distributes many of the Warner Bros. Discovery cable networks in its core lineup, so viewers can record and watch current episodes through the cloud DVR. The Discovery+ attachment extends that access into the deeper on-demand archive, earlier seasons, and exclusives that stream only inside the Discovery+ service. Activation is handled inside the YouTube TV account settings, and the charge appears on the same monthly bill as the base plan and any other add-ons the household already carries.
YouTube TV has spent the past year expanding
YouTube TV has spent the past year expanding the number of premium and specialty services it sells on top of its live channel packages. Those add-ons range from premium movie networks and sports extras to smaller niche streamers, and they can be started or canceled without changing the underlying live-TV plan. Discovery+ joins that shelf as a focused unscripted option rather than a full entertainment bundle.
Discovery+ is the subscription streaming service built around Discovery’s nonfiction brands, first launched in India on March 23, 2020, and rolled out more widely after Discovery announced an international version that September. It debuted in the United States on January 4, 2021, priced as a low-cost home for reality, lifestyle, true-crime, food, and nature programming from networks such as Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery, OWN, Animal Planet, and Travel Channel, along with originals and some licensed BBC and A&E content; the next day it replaced Discovery’s earlier Dplay and Eurosport Player services in Europe. By April 2022 it had about 24 million subscribers. That same month Discovery, Inc. completed its merger with WarnerMedia to form Warner Bros. Discovery, making Discovery+ a sister service to HBO Max. The combined company initially planned to fold the two apps together; in May 2023 it relaunched HBO Max as Max (later reverted to the HBO Max name in 2025) and added Discovery programming to that library, but it kept Discovery+ as a separate, lower-priced service because it remained profitable, even as the app was discontinued in some markets in favor of the combined offering.
You can subscribe to the Discovery+ add-on on the YouTube TV website.
