The second trailer for The Social Reckoning has been released, giving us a closer look at the story of Mikey Madison’s Frances Haugen, a young engineer at Facebook and her decision to “to stand up against the system she has been a part of and risks everything to bring its secrets to light.” The film is set to arrive in Indian theatres on October 9, 2026, the same day as its international release.
The new trailer brings together Haugen, described as and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, played by Jeremy Allen White. The two find themselves taking on one of the world’s biggest technology companies as they work to uncover what Facebook knew about the impact of its platform. The trailer also teases more story beats to come, with Frances explaining how Facebook changed its algorithm and strayed from its initial goal of connecting people online.
We also see Jeremy Strong’s Mark Zuckerberg preparing for testimony and defending Facebook’s position as the company comes under increasing scrutiny. The trailer gives a look at the pressure building around the company as Haugen and Horwitz continue their investigation.
The Social Reckoning arrives around 16 years after
The Social Reckoning arrives around 16 years after Sorkin’s The Social Network, directed by David Fincher and released in 2010. The new film serves as a companion piece to that movie and focuses on the real events surrounding Frances Haugen’s 2021 disclosures and Horwitz’s reporting for The Wall Street Journal.
The official synopsis for The Social Reckoning reads:
“Inspired by true events and the whistleblower who started the social media reckoning we’re seeing play out today, this Aaron Sorkin original screenplay is a companion piece to the hit film The Social Network and a true David and Goliath story. Frances Haugen (Madison), a young Facebook engineer, enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz (White), a Wall Street Journal reporter, to go on a dangerous journey that ends up blowing the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets.”
Aaron Sorkin wrote and directed the film. The cast also includes Jeremy Allen White, Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen and Bill Burr.
Sorkin produced the film alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice and Stuart Besser. Lauren Lohman, Roger McNamee, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Broderick Johnson and Andrew A. Kosove serve as executive producers.
